After almost three weeks of train travel and tourism, I decided to regroup in Negombo and dedicate the day to this website. I started this journey from Sri Lank's capital of Colombo, taking trains to Kandy, Ella, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura and finally Negombo. I wanted travel as much as possible by train which often led me to take the longest routes possible. I'm in no particular hurry, train travel is about the journey as well as the destination. To get to Sigiriya & Drambulla I had no choice but to hire a car, the air conditioning was very much appreciated after climbing to the top of the Lion Rock. I have plenty of pictures and info to build a Sri Lanka page, hope to start that in the near future.
A couple of good friends of mine pointed out a number of typos and misspelled words. I appreciate the help with that & will try to do a better job of self editing. Please feel free to point out my mistakes, they will be corrected as I endeavor to build a professional website. Until next time. Take care, Mike This site is definitely a work in progress. My intention is to keep adding to the existing Thailand and Myanmar pages and adding pages for Sri Lanka and Cambodia. There will be a page dedicated to travel tech, including GSM smart phones, SIM cards, Apps and Kindle travel guides.
Currently I'm visiting Sri Lanka, traveling primarily by train. The hill country is just breath taking and so far my railway journey has been easy and enjoyable. The page I will create about this fascinating country will focus on cities and towns which easily accessed by trains. I will return to Bangkok in two weeks to revisit some of my favorite temples that lie off of the tourist path. These include Wat Mahabut and Wat Hua Lamphong which you will be able to read more about here in the next few weeks. From Bangkok I will take a train to Kanchanaburi to see the Bridge Over the River Kwai, World War II cemeteries and related museums. I've made four trips to Cambodia from Thailand and love Angkor Wat, but have never made the journey overland. There are towns and things I'd like to see along the Thai-Cambodia boarder including the Preah Vihear temple. A long bus trip is in order which will include a several day stop over in Siam Reap. Please book mark this page and come back for visit from time to time. I will be adding a lot of new material to the site in the next few months. |
